Reasons to support the WhyTry Program
- Students and Student Welfare Counsellors in every state capital city except Darwin and Hobart confirm that WhyTry works. For example: Murrumburrah High started with one Certified Why Try Facilitator in April 2006. At this stage, 7 more teachers, including a Deputy Principal, are now booked in to attend Facillitator Training in Wagga and Canberra, September 2006. Balwyn High School in Melbourne, started with 2 teachers and 50 students, supported by North Balwyn Rotary in 2005. In 2006 all 270 Year 9 students were involved in the Why Try Program.
Your Rotary Club can respond to the recent Federal Government’s call on community based service organisations to help address and alleviate our Youth Mental Health Crisis. Please choose to empower your local schools with an effective early intervention cognitive training program.
- Why Try meets the urgent needs of the majority of students, not just youth at risk of leaving school early. Feedback proves that Youth Agencies, Anglicare and Wesley Mission find Why Try empower their youth clientele. Non-Government schools utilising the WhyTry Program include: Caulfield Grammar in Melbourne, Faith Lutheran School in South Australia and Mater Dei Catholic College in Wagga Wagga.
- Why Try is unique in Australia. Your local High School will be one of the first in the world to partner with a Rotary club in piloting the ‘Noble Oz Awards’ project. Let us encourage, recognise and reward youth for noble acts and self-improvement.
- Why Try is cost-effective ($25 per set of student resources and $650 per set of Facilitator resources) and equips your school with Facilitator resources for use beyond the first year.
